K-12 Educational Facilities

STAN's K-12 experience includes projects ranging from one room to complete schools, and services including design and/or commissioning.  Our extensive knowledge focuses on the balance between cutting edge low energy systems and "keep it simple" maintainability.  Our key staff members have significant K-12 engineering design and commissioning experience.

Statewide System Commissioning
Ohio School Facilities Commission

STAN has been selected by OSFC as an approved Commissioning Agent since the inception of the program in January 2005.  We were instrumental in development of the scope of services and statewide standards.  The scope originally included thorough design reviews, development of the commissioning specification, test plan and forms, functional testing of the HVAC systems/controls and electrical systems, seasonal testing, final warranty review and project closeout.

The scope was modified in 2009 to include LEED Fundamental/Enhanced and Building Envelope Commissioning, and again in 2012 to include building envelope thermal imaging and maintenance plan services.

To date, STAN has been selected by 105 school districts statewide to commission a total of 28,699,642 square feet of new and retrofit facilities.  These projects are in various stages, ranging from early design phase to completed projects.

Our selection by so many districts in this competitive process demonstrates the high quality of our staff as well as the success of our commissioning philosophy.

Findlay City School District
Findlay, Ohio

STAN served as the Commissioning Agent for the new 79,471 SF Millstream Career Center, 111,570 SF Glenwood Middle School, and 110,387 SF Donnell Middle School.  The district achieved LEED Gold certification for Glenwood and Millstream and LEED Silver for Donnell.

In addition to serving as the commissioning agent, multiple STAN team members participated in and were responsible for the design of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

The Findlay City School District projects illustrate STAN's ability to design and commission projects with multiple system types, including the following:

  • VAV and Constant Volume Systems, with and without Energy Recovery

  • Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS)

  • Chilled Beams

  • Central geothermal plants and pumping systems

  • High-efficiency boiler plants

  • Chiller plants and cooling towers

  • Normal and emergency power distribution systems

  • Lighting Controls (Daylight Harvesting)
